The Victoria neighborhood of Riverside, CA is one of the more historic areas of the city. It was partially developed by Matthew Gage, one of the city's early leaders. This neighborhood is known for single story, ranch style homes, and lovely, meandering tree lined streets. Much of this neighborhood is along the natural boundary of the Tequesquite Arroyo where the Victoria Country Club Golf Course is located. Established in 1903 and believed to be the first such Country Club to be established in the State of California, the arroyo is a wonderful, natural environment which is mirrored by much of the neighborhood.
On the commercial side, the Victoria neighborhood features a mixture of commercial and office uses, along with the Olivewood Cemetery. Victoria is also home to the California School for the Deaf, a premier provider of special education services. This area bustles during the week offering great options for residents to shop, work, and learn. Off of this commercial area is the "newest" part of the Victoria neighborhood which was annexed in the early 60's. This neighborhood, fondly referred to by the locals as the Cowboy Streets, is a great, family oriented neighborhood with modest sized bungalow style homes and tree lined streets.
Victoria Avenue is one of the most notable features of this neighborhood. Victoria Avenue, which is a walking and biking heaven for all Riverside residents, is a City Landmark and currently in the designation process to list it in the National Register of Historic Places. This street is the central thoroughfare through the north portion of the neighborhood and forms the eastern boundary in southern portion. On the eastern edge of the neighborhood you'll see the beautiful Victoria Bridge which connects the Victoria neighborhood with Downtown. The original bridge, which was built with wood in 1891, was replaced with the current cement version in 1928. As you drive over the bridge, enjoy the views of the Tequesquite Arroyo and the mountain ranges beyond that surround Riverside.
This neighborhood is in the heart of this city and is convenient to Downtown, Magnolia Center, UCR, and the freeways. It is a wonderful place to call home.
